Beyond the Books: Connecting & Inspiring School Librarians

This year's Library Symposium, hosted by the IMESD and coordinated by IMESD Library Media Specialist Christie Boen, drew educators and professionals from across the region for a day of learning, collaboration, and community building. The event occurred on April 9th and brought together 30 attendees representing 15 school districts and 3 industry vendors — a reflection of the broad regional interest in strengthening library programs and the professionals who lead them.
A highlight of the symposium was the return of Jen Maurer from the Oregon State Library, a presenter for her third consecutive year. Maurer’s session on Library Core Tenets offered something valuable for every attendee: foundational training for those new to the field, and a meaningful refresh for seasoned staff looking to reconnect with the principles that guide their work.
Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive. A returning attendee noted, “I felt honored to be able to attend and meet great people with the same common goals.” The symposium continues to grow as a vital hub for professional development and peer connection with the real impact being felt long-term as staff carry what they've learned back into their districts.
